Caroline opened her mouth slightly, as if about to speak, but in the end, she said nothing. She lowered her head and continued eating, ignoring the tension in the air.
David’s expression darkened. He wiped his sleeve off with little care, then gave her a look. “Are you done?”
“Oops, my hand slipped. Sorry about that.”
His grip tightened around the napkin for a split second, but he forced himself to stay composed.
“It’s fine,” he said flatly. “Finish your breakfast. I’ll go change.”
Without another word, he turned and left.
He tolerated it.
David understood why Caroline was still upset–after all, he had taken what he wanted last night, ignoring her protests. She had been throwing a silent tantrum ever since.
She wasn’t letting it go. She was making it clear she hadn’t forgiven him.
He decided to let her be. There wasn’t much else he could do.
The butler hesitated before stepping forward. “Mr. Ellison, should we—”
“It’s nothing,” David cut in, his voice devoid of emotion.
Meanwhile, the servants swiftly cleared the mess. One placed a fresh glass of milk beside Caroline. “Mrs. Ellison.”
As if nothing had happened.
“Thank you.” Caroline took a sip, savoring the rich taste.
“Mrs. Ellison,” the servant murmured, hesitating. “Mr. Ellison poured you milk earlier, but you didn’t drink it. You even spilled it. I thought he was going to be furious–I was standing right there, thinking any second now, he was going to lose it. You know how he is–he can’t stand a single stain.”
Caroline’s lips curved slightly. “And yet, here we are. Everything is perfectly fine.”
“Yeah… It’s strange. I really thought things would explode. Maybe Mr. Ellison just cares about you too much to react…”
She let out a quiet laugh. Care? After what he did to me?
Ignoring her protests, ignoring the fact that she was pregnant, he had only cared about his own desires- taking her by force, without a shred of remorse.
Maybe he felt a twinge of guilt. Maybe that was why he was letting things slide. But how long would that last?
One thing was certain–Caroline’s resentment wouldn’t disappear over something so insignificant. She wasn’t going to forgive him that easily.

By the time David returned, she was already gone.
“Where is she?”
“Mrs. Ellison… I think she left,” the servant replied cautiously.
David’s gaze darkened. “Think?”
The servant lowered their head. “She was here a moment ago, and then suddenly, she was gone.”
“Mr. Ellison, I’ll check with security,” the butler quickly added.

Soon, the report came in. “Mrs. Ellison left the house. She took her bag–seems like she went to work.”
Silence filled the room.
She left. Without a word. She was deliberately provoking him.
David loosened his tie slightly, his expression unreadable. After a long pause, he suddenly kicked over the vase beside him.
Crash!
The enormous, priceless vase shattered across the floor, pieces scattering in every direction.
David didn’t flinch. His gaze remained steady as he strode toward the door. “Get the car ready.”
He couldn’t take his anger out on Caroline, so he had to vent it somewhere else.
If she had been home, he might’ve hesitated. He wouldn’t have wanted to startle her.
But now? She was growing bolder. Acting like he didn’t even matter anymore.
At Ellison Group, Caroline made a last–second dash to the machine, scanned her face, and managed to clock in just in time.
She exhaled in relief.
It was close, but at least she wasn’t late.
There was an important meeting this morning, personally led by Boris, and she wasn’t about to miss it.
“Anna, the meeting’s at 9:40, right?” Caroline confirmed, turning to her best friend as she sat down at her desk.
