Chapter 16 – Absolutely Uncultured
Ethan greeted politely, “Mrs. Carter.”
Liam, however, remained indifferent. He simply blinked, looking completely at ease.
Emily cast an impassive glance at them before instructing, “Nathan left an important document on his office desk. He needs you to deliver it.”
“Oh?” Ethan hesitated. He had personally brought all necessary documents earlier. Did I really miss something?
Nathan was a strict businessman who disliked careless mistakes. Given the significance of today’s meeting with Mr. Quince, Ethan couldn’t afford to risk delaying it. Without much thought, he turned to leave.
But then, he remembered—Mr. Carter asked me to watch over Liam.
Emily, noticing his hesitation, spoke smoothly, “You can leave him with me.”
Though something felt off, Ethan still nodded. “Sorry for the trouble, Mrs. Carter.”
Then, he rushed out.

Now, only Liam and Emily remained in the room.
Liam, being sharp-witted, immediately saw through the situation. He stared at Emily with piercing eyes and asked bluntly, “Did you purposely send Mr. Ethan away so you could talk to me alone, Grandma?”
Emily flinched.
She hadn’t expected the child to be so direct. And hearing him call her Grandma? That grated on her nerves.
“Who’s your grandma? Don’t call me that!” she snapped, her tone sharp.
Liam, utterly unfazed, replied calmly, “If you don’t like it, I won’t call you that. What do you want to talk to me about?”
Emily’s expression darkened.
She didn’t bother with pleasantries. Stepping closer, she glared down at Liam and hissed, “I want you to get out of Carter Manor immediately! You’re an illegitimate child of unknown origins—you don’t belong here! My son isn’t your father, so stop claiming to be his son.”
Liam’s gaze remained steady. “Please watch your words. I’m not an illegitimate child. I have a mommy, and I’ve found my daddy now. Even if you refuse to accept it, it’s the truth.”
Emily let out a cold, mocking laugh. “You’re quite articulate for a child. Did that wench Olivia teach you this? Does she think bringing you here will make me accept her? Dream on!”
Then, her tone turned even crueler.
“Nathan is already engaged. When he gets married, he’ll have his own children—the real heirs of the Carter family. But you?” She sneered, her voice dripping with contempt. “What do you think you are? Olivia Monroe gave birth to you, so you have no right to be part of the Carter family.”
Her gaze turned chilling.
“So if you have any sense, you should leave. Don’t make me force you out.”

Liam’s expression shifted.
But not with fear.
Instead, he looked at Emily coldly and challenged, “Why don’t you say all of this in front of my daddy?”
Emily froze.
Liam tilted his head, his sharp gaze unwavering. “Is it because Daddy wouldn’t listen to you, so you can only try to scare me instead?” His voice carried no fear—only defiance. “But I’m not afraid. No matter what you say, I still want to be with Daddy.”
Emily’s face twisted with fury. “You…!”
She had never expected the child to talk back to her so boldly.
The more she looked at him, the more irritated she became.
Her hand trembled with rage as she pointed a finger at him. “Didn’t Olivia teach you any manners? You’re absolutely uncultured!”
Liam remained calm.
He looked up at her and said, “Mommy did teach me good manners. But you just swore. Isn’t that more uncultured?”
“You—!”
Emily’s face turned bright red.
She glared at the four-year-old before her, utterly livid.
This child—how dare he talk back to me like this?!
She refused to believe Olivia had raised him properly.
That woman must have taught him to talk like this!
