Chapter 14 – Your Mom Is Devious
After chatting for a while, Nathan took a strand of Liam’s hair and handed it to Ethan to deliver to the DNA testing agency. Then, he led Liam around the villa to explore.
At noon, the butler instructed the kitchen to prepare a sumptuous lunch, which Liam enjoyed immensely.
After the meal, the boy yawned and tugged at Nathan’s sleeve. “Daddy, will you nap with me?”
Liam’s soft, sleepy voice melted Nathan’s heart.
Without hesitation, Nathan carried the little boy upstairs. As Liam curled up next to him, Nathan found himself gazing at the child’s delicate features. Something deep inside him stirred.
At around two in the afternoon, Liam woke up to the scent of fresh pastries. The butler had prepared an assortment of cakes and treats for an afternoon snack.
Liam, who was usually picky about food, made an exception for sweets. He took a spoonful and sighed in satisfaction. “Delicious!”
Nathan smirked, watching him. He even eats sweets just like I did as a kid.
Just then, an uninvited guest arrived.
Emily.
She had been coming over almost daily ever since Olivia returned to the country, paranoid that her son would get involved with that woman again.
As soon as she stepped inside, she noticed a young boy—around four years old—sitting on the sofa, happily eating pastries. What truly shocked her was when the child casually picked up a piece and handed it to Nathan.
“This is delicious too, Daddy! Try it!”
Emily froze.
Her mind buzzed.
Daddy?
Her expression darkened instantly. “Nathan, what’s going on? Why is this child calling you ‘Daddy’?”
Nathan had expected this reaction. His gaze remained calm as he replied, “He’s Liam. My son.”
“What?” Emily’s eyes widened in shock. “You’re not even married. How do you have a son?”
She turned to look at the child, scrutinizing him. Liam flinched slightly under her sharp gaze and instinctively moved closer to Nathan.
Nathan placed a protective hand on the boy’s back, reassuring him. Then, without hesitation, he stated, “He’s mine and Olivia’s.”
Emily staggered, as if struck by lightning.
“You’re saying… this child is yours and Olivia’s? That’s impossible!”
She immediately denied it.
Back then, Olivia had only spent a single night in Nathan’s room before being expelled from the Carter family. Now, five years later, she suddenly appeared with a child, claiming it was Nathan’s?
“That woman is truly shameless!” Emily seethed. “It’s one thing for her to come back, but bringing a child to deceive you? Unbelievable!”
Her sharp eyes fixated on Liam again.
The boy had delicate features—rosy lips, fair skin, and expressive eyes. Something about his timid expression reminded her of Olivia, which only made her angrier.
With a cold sneer, she snapped, “Did Olivia Monroe put you up to this? Telling you to come here and call him ‘Daddy’?” Her voice dripped with sarcasm. “Tell me, child—who really is your father?”
Liam’s small brows furrowed. He didn’t like this woman’s tone, but out of respect, he answered politely, “Mommy didn’t instigate anything. My daddy is Nathan Carter.”
“Nonsense!” Emily snapped. “Your mother is a devious woman. Don’t think you can frame my son and pin this child on him!”
Nathan’s gaze turned ice-cold. His voice carried a dangerous edge as he warned, “Mom, watch your words.”
Liam, too, was growing angry. His tiny fists clenched as he declared, “I’m not lying! My mommy is a good person! She loves me the most! And I’ve already done a DNA test. I am Daddy’s child!”
