Listening to Olivia’s cool voice originating from the other end of the line, Nathan remained unfazed, seemingly unsurprised by her response.
“You’re a wise person, Ms. Monroe,” he slowly said, a subtle hint of a smile playing at the corners of his
mouth.
Olivia didn’t want to engage in a lengthy conversation with him, so she said straightforwardly, “Let’s set a time to sign the contract, and while we’re at it, I’d like to survey the High–Tech Industrial Park area. If there’s no issue, we’ll immediately start working on the system from our end.”
Listening to Olivia’s assertive words, Nathan found it difficult to associate her with the timid girl from five years ago. She has truly grown so much over the years.
Feeling an indescribable emotion surging within him, Nathan said, “You’ll be notified when the time
comes,”
“All right.” Right after she responded, Olivia ended the call decisively.
Nathan stood by the floor–to–ceiling window for quite some time before he finally called Ethan in. “Have someone draft the contract and sign it with Horizon Ventures as soon as possible.
Ethan was slightly surprised, but he didn’t ask further. He responded in acknowledgment and swiftly left.
At that moment, Nathan’s phone chimed with the sound of an incoming message.
He picked up his phone and saw a WhatsApp message from William: Daddy, what are you doing?
Before he could even respond, another message came through: It’s another day of missing you.
At the end of the sentence, William even added a shy emoticon.
Nathan couldn’t help but chuckle. His fingers flew across the screen of his phone as he typed: What are you doing?
Nathan wondered. Shouldn’t he be at the kindergarten at this time?
No sooner had the message been sent than William called.
As soon as the call was answered, William’s childish voice could be sounded. “Daddy, I’m in crafts class. Many of the kids have made small toys, and I’ve made a robot. I’ll send you a picture.”
Nathan received a picture of the robot crafted by William.
A hint of surprise flickered in Nathan’s eyes as he took a closer look. The craftsmanship was incredibly detailed, nothing like what one would expect from a child’s handiwork.
Nathan knew William was intelligent, but he hadn’t realized the latter’s practical skills were equally impressive.
William waited for a long while without hearing Nathan’s voice. He anxiously asked, “Daddy, what do you think of my robot?”
“Not bad at all,” praised Nathan.

Upon receiving his praise, William, on the other end of the phone, grinned from ear to ear. “Daddy, I’m so happy.”
“Mm.” At that moment, Nathan was completely devoid of his usual cold and stern demeanor. His demeanor was much gentler, and a faint smile lingered at the corners of his mouth.
“Daddy, when can I have a meal with you?” William’s voice was palpable with anticipation.
Nathan didn’t want to let him down, so he said, “I’ll make it happen. Have faith in me.”
“Okay. I believe in you, Daddy.”
Olivia had never imagined that William would call Nathan during class hours. After hanging up the phone, she was busy for the entire afternoon.
It wasn’t until the evening that she was finally free to pick up William from kindergarten and bring him home.
“Mommy.” As soon as William saw Olivia, he ran toward her.
Olivia gently embraced him, wiping away his sweat. Then, she asked softly, “Did you behave well and listen to your teacher at kindergarten today?”
“Absolutely!” William nodded firmly. Then, he lifted the robot in his hand and said, “I made this in my crafts class.” Daddy praised me for doing a good job.
William dared not utter that sentence out loud and could only say it inwardly.
Olivia took the robot, examined it, and chuckled. “You’ve done an excellent job.”
Following that, she led William to the car. On their way home, she could distinctly sense that her son was in high spirits that day, so she asked, “Liam, did anyone bully you today?”
