Valerie followed Terrence back to Foliage Villa and headed upstairs.
She moved like a lifeless shell, devoid of any spark.
Terrence watched her back and furrowed his brows fiercely.
Valerie used to be vibrant, lively, and carefree.
Her laughter used to warm his heart.
But somewhere along the way, she had changed.
“Valerie…” Terrence moved his lips several times before finally managing to speak.“I’m sorry.”
Valerie paused for a moment, then continued climbing the stairs calmly, one step at a time.
Terrence sneered, “In a few days, the Carroll family will go bankrupt. After that, no one will dare to mess with you again.”
Valerie slowly turned her head, standing high above proudly, her eyes concealing mockery.
“What does the Carroll family’s bankruptcy have to do with me? Or are you trying to say you’re doing this for my sake?” Her tone grew even more sarcastic.“Are you telling me this because you think I’ll be moved and come crawling back to be your simp again?”
Terrence’s frown deepened. “That’s not what I meant. I just wanted you to know that Margaret and I aren’t together. You’re not a mistress.”
“Have you ever heard the saying, ‘The one who isn’t loved is the real mistress‘? I never understood it before, but now I–see how true it is.
“Titles are just for show.
“The one who’s truly loved is the happy one.
“Oh, and one more thing…”
Valerie raised an eyebrow.“The Carroll family won’t go bankrupt.”
With that, she gracefully walked into her room.
Terrence stood in place.
He didn’t like the self–deprecation in her tone.
But he couldn’t help but wonder where she got her conviction.
A few minutes later, the doorbell rang urgently.
Kyra opened the door and was taken aback to see Margaret in a wheelchair. “Ms. Levine…”
“Is Terry here?” Margaret’s face was pale, her eyes brimming with tears.
“Yeah, he’s here.” Kyra forgot to announce their arrival, stepping aside to let Esteban wheel Margaret into the living room.
Terrence’s forehead veins bulged when he saw Margaret.“Why aren’t you resting in the hospital? What are you doing here?”
