Aaron said, “She is not afraid to suffer, but it has to be her own choice.”
Alex scoffed. “Whether she’s willing or not is not up to her.”
“Aaron, I’m warning you, don’t refuse a kind offer,” Alex said, and with that, he left.
Aaron entered the ward and found Ellie standing behind the door. Aaron didn’t ask how much Ellie had heard, but judging by her expression, she had heard quite a bit.
“You don’t need to deal with this matter. I’ll negotiate with the police,” Aaron said, leading Ellie to the small table and setting down lunch.
Ellie sat down calmly and looked at Aaron. “Aaron, don’t worry about me. My wrist is just slightly bruised, and it will be fine after a few days of rest.”
Aaron, being a public official, shouldn’t get involved in such matters. Moreover, the leak originated from Ellie’s phone, so she must handle it herself.
After calming down, Ellie thought about it. It wasn’t hard to guess who was behind such a sudden incident.

Not long after he left, Nancy found her way to the hospital. Ellie got out of bed and greeted Nancy. Before they could exchange more than a few words, they saw Alex swaggering in with breakfast.
Thinking of what Alex had said to Aaron in the corridor last night and looking at her injured wrist, Ellie averted her gaze.
“Mom, why are you here?” Alex put the breakfast on the small table and spoke to Nancy nonchalantly, but his eyes were fixed on Ellie’s expression.
“You good–for–nothing, how dare you show your face here?” Nancy rolled up her sleeves and slapped him. “I told you not to bully my daughter with your hands.”
“It wasn’t intentional.” Alex dodged behind Ellie, pushing her in front of Nancy. “Say something for me.” Ellie said, “Nancy, Alex and I just had a little disagreement. It’s nothing serious. You know, siblings always do.”
Nancy was thrilled to hear Ellie say that she and Alex were siblings. She almost jumped for joy. “My Ellie, you’ve finally
agreed to be part of our family. That’s wonderful.”
“I’m so happy to hear that.” Nancy came over to hold Ellie’s hand, but Ellie was suddenly pulled away by Alex.
Alex’s eyes narrowed dangerously as he stared at Ellie. He gritted his teeth and asked, “What did you just say?”
Ellie said, “Siblings always do. Is that wrong?”
One thing was subdued by another. In this situation, Ellie could only rely on Nancy to back her up.
“No, it’s not right!” Alex suddenly flared up. “We’re not siblings.”
Ellie said, “But I was adopted by your mom.”
Alex angrily said, “You are not allowed to say that.”
Seeing Alex’s red–eyed threat, Ellie looked pitifully at Nancy. “Nancy…”
Before she could finish, her mouth was covered by Alex. Alex shouted, “If you dare to say we are siblings again, I’ll sew your mouth shut.”
Ellie fell silent.
Nancy, witnessing this, unleashed a barrage of blows on Alex, not stopping until he released Ellie.
Alex pointed at Ellie and yelled at Nancy, “As long as I’m here, you’ll never adopt her.”
