- Chapter 69 Secretly Expressing Love
- Panic gripped Ethan as his boss glared at him with a face redder than a fire truck. Sweat beaded on Ethan’s forehead, dripping down his face.
- Finally, Nathan took a deep breath and calmed down a bit. “Follow them! If they do anything even a little suspicious, let me know right away!”
- “Yes, sir!” Ethan wouldn’t dream of disobeying.
- Across town, at the hospital, Olivia’s fever had finally broken, and she felt much better.
- The doctor gave her a clean bill of health and no more worries about the fever coming back. Benjamin handled all the paperwork to get her discharged and even got her medication.
- They were outside the hospital room within half an hour, waiting by the entrance.
- Lucas pulled out his car keys and said to Olivia. “Hey, I’ll take King to the hotel and check him in. You need to go home and rest. Tonight, I’ll book a nice restaurant to welcome King back. You can join us then.”
- Olivia thought this was a good plan and agreed, “Sounds good.” As she cast a concerned glance at King.
- The latter offered a reassuring smile. “Go home and relax. Call me if you need anything.”
- “Sure,” Olivia responded, nodding her head.
- They said their goodbyes at the hospital entrance, taking separate paths.
- On the drive home, Liam snuggled against Olivia and looked up at her, confused. He finally blurted out a question that had been bothering him. His voice wobbled a little. “Mommy, where is Daddy? Wasn’t he supposed to be with you at the hospital? How come I hadn’t seen him at all!”
- Earlier that morning, Liam had been thrilled when he got a call from his father. But then Nathan told him Olivia was admitted due to a high fever, so Liam rushed there. Now that his mother was feeling better, Liam naturally missed his father.
- Olivia was stumped. She replied, unsure. “I’m not sure, honey. Maybe something came up, and he had to leave early?”
- Nathan was known for getting impatient and losing his temper easily. She figured her fainting episode the night before might have pushed him over the edge. Perhaps making it to this morning was already Nathan’s breaking point.
- Liam’s face fell, but he tried to be optimistic. He knew he’d see his dad again eventually.
- Olivia saw the longing in Liam’s eyes, and guilt gnawed at her. She knew her problems with Nathan hurt their son, who had been yearning for both parents to reconcile.
- ‘But Nate and I just… couldn’t make it work…‘ she thought sadly.
- As she lost herself in thought, they pulled into the driveway.
- King had insisted she spend the day resting, though she did manage to fit in some programming lessons with Liam. And boy, with his sky–high IQ, Liam was a natural!
- Finished
- systems! Olivia, his mentor and mother, was both proud and astonished that Liam was a genius; he might even become better than her in no time!
- But Liam’s mind was elsewhere. The little one missed his father terribly, he figured even though they couldn’t meet in person. Maybe there was a subtle way to send a message?
- Although they couldn’t meet face–to–face, Liam wouldn’t let that stop him from sending his father some
- love.
- His chance arrived when Olivia was distracted.
- The little one hacked into the Carter Group company network. Working quickly, he installed a custom program designed to be discreet, temporary, and harmless.
- Suddenly, every computer screen at Carter Group flickered and glitched before bursting into life with a cartoon character. The character, sitting in a cardboard box, held a sign that read, “Miss you, Daddy!”
- The office erupted in bewildered murmurs, unsure of what was happening!
- The IT department, however, went into full panic mode. Virus attack! They scrambled to activate their firewall and interception systems.
- But just as quickly as it appeared, the cartoon character vanished, leaving the screens normal again.
- Poof! The “virus” was gone.
