Chapter 72 – She Is Clean
“Mrs. Ellison, Mr. Ellison asked me to examine you,” the elderly woman said gently. “Please relax, there’s no need to be nervous.”
Caroline’s eyes remained fixed on her. “Are you highly skilled in this? Can you tell with certainty just by examining?”
“Yes.”
Caroline continued staring, her gaze unwavering.
The elderly woman shifted uncomfortably. “Mrs. Ellison, rest assured. I will be very gentle. The entire process will take less than a minute.”
“Are you certain your results will be accurate? What if…” Caroline dragged out her words, “there’s a mistake? Can you bear the consequences?”
The elderly woman hesitated, sensing something deeper in Caroline’s words.
Caroline spoke softly. “Since David called you here, it means you serve him. I will cooperate and won’t make things difficult for you. However, I want you to consider something.”
“Please go ahead, Mrs. Ellison.”
“If I am innocent, the outcome will be a relief to everyone. You’ll be rewarded handsomely, and my relationship with David will remain intact. But if your results suggest otherwise… what then?”
The elderly woman’s expression faltered.
Indeed, if Mrs. Ellison was deemed impure and she reported it to Mr. Ellison, his rage would be inevitable. And when that happened, what would she do? If he turned his fury on her, how could she bear it? Knowing such secrets could only bring trouble. The more she knew, the greater the risk. Forget about getting a reward—surviving unscathed would be a challenge.
Caroline’s voice softened. “I’m simply reminding you, nothing more. The decision is yours.” She lay back, her tone calm. “Alright, let’s begin.”
The elderly woman hesitated for a moment before stepping forward. She lifted the blanket.
Outside, David stood in the hallway, a cigarette between his fingers.
The ash had burned long, yet he hadn’t taken a single drag.
He was waiting for the result.
Caroline had better be clean. Otherwise, he wouldn’t let her off.
Even if he never touched her again, she had to remain untouched by anyone else.
The door creaked open.
The elderly woman stepped out.
“Mr. Ellison, the examination is complete.”
“And the result?”
“Mrs. Ellison is clean.”
David’s brows furrowed. “Are you certain?”
“I performed the examination myself. There is no mistake,” she assured him. “But if you still have doubts, there is another way—you could verify it personally.”
After all, if he truly wanted to confirm her purity, he could simply sleep with her.
David said nothing and waved her off.
The elderly woman nodded, quietly leaving. Her palms were still clammy.
That was close. She had almost not made it out of the Ellison residence alive!
David stepped into the master bedroom. Caroline lay on her side, her back to him.
“Are you satisfied?” she asked, her voice steady. “Is this the result you wanted?”
He pressed his lips together, silent.
“Luckily, those kidnappers didn’t have time to violate me. Otherwise, even if I told the truth, I wouldn’t be able to prove my innocence. I’d lose my dignity and still face your doubts. What would be the point of living then?”
Her voice grew cold. “David, haven’t you tormented me enough? Did you have to humiliate me this way too?”
She exhaled slowly. “Now, you can rest assured.”
